Lees Newsome Limited was founded in 1875 by Benjamin Lees, and have serviced a wide range of industries for a century and a half with textiles and textile-based products.

Originally a weaving and raising operation, the company was always forward thinking and soon expanded in to bleaching, dyeing and finishing, with knitting, coating and sewing units soon added.  During its heyday, Lees Newsome employed over 250 people and operated 200 weaving looms.

However, as the times changed, we saw a dramatic decline in demand for UK produced cotton fabrics. Change was inevitable and in 2008 the company re-structured.

The weaving and raising processes were sub-contracted to partner mills, and our bleaching dyeing and finishing plant was relocated. Our offices, warehouse and conversion unit moved from the original Ashley Mill in Oldham to our current site in Middleton.

Lees Newsome recognised that in order to continue to produce high quality fabrics and products at the competitive prices, we would have to find the best overseas partner mills to work with, and as a result spent decades developing and sustaining valuable working relationships which remain in place today.

With cutting edge technology at our disposal, we have expanded our offering and now serve a diverse range of industries as a textile manufacturer, importer and convertor. These industries include:

  • Exhibitions/ events
  • Upholstery
  • Curtains & soft furnishings
  • Funeral (coffin linings)
  • Screen print & digital print
  • Bedding and mattress
  • Dairy
  • Specialised fabrics and commission work

The work that was done all those years ago, ensured that Lees Newsome had an excellent reputation throughout the industry and continues to do so, with our clients at the forefront of everything we do.
